Superfast Broadband is on it's way Slideshow
Connecting Devon and Somerset is the largest programme of its kind in England. At any one time up to 150 engineers and contractors are working on the programme…
1,300 new green street side cabinets and over 250,000 miles of optical fibre are required to be installed (the equivalent distance of traveling to the moon).
An estimated 3.3 million engineering man hours will be spent on the project up to the end of 2016.
Over the course of the programme £94 million in total will be invested (£53 million from local and central government and a further £41 million from BT).
Building on the commercial plans of the private sector, the project aims to make fibre broadband available to 90% of premises in Devon and Somerset by the end of 2016.
In addition to the 90% superfast target, the programme aims to ensure a minimum of 2Mbps speeds for all homes and businesses by the end of 2016.
