Phase II

Phase 2 Update

As part of our commitment to provide superfast broadband to residents, businesses and communities, we have signed contracts with Ultrafast broadband provider Gigaclear for Lots 2, 3, 5 & 6 of six Phase 2 areas. Superfast fixed wireless broadband provider Airband have been awarded the Phase 2 contract for Lot 4. The new phase two partners include the suppliers for each Lot along with Sedgemoor District Council, Mendip District Council, Taunton Deane Borough Council, West Somerset District Council, Teignbridge District Council, North Somerset District Council, Bath & North East Somerset, Devon County Council and Somerset County Council, who are acting as the lead authority.

Combined, the Gigaclear contracts will deliver a £62.25m investment, bringing ultrafast services to an additional 35,225 of the hardest to reach homes and businesses across the region. The Lot 4 contract from Airband will invest £7m into bringing 13,000 properties in the hardest to reach areas superfast connection. CDS will announce the remaining contract for Lot 1 when it is awarded.

We are currently working with Gigaclear and Airband to finalise the planning and timescales from the baseline proposed coverage submitted as part of the contract tender, but to check if you are in the baseline coverage (subject to the current planning) please visit our Where & When checker.

National Parks

The National Parks roll out is already underway, with broadband supplier Airband Community Internet Ltd installing its transmission point infrastructure to connect the most rural regions via a fixed wireless network.

We have produced a list of frequently asked questions regarding both our Phase 1 and Phase 2 programmes, and how the two align going forward. This includes questions relating to coverage and mapping. Please see FAQs for more details.

The 6 Lots and National Park Areas

After being awarded State Aid approval from the EU in May, the agreed Phase Two intervention area has been divided up into six lots, to enable a more competitive tender process. The 6 lot areas are shown in the below map. The hashed areas represent the two regions covered by the separate national park contract with Airband Community Internet Ltd.
