Superfast Fibre Broadband Case Study: Somerdale International Ltd

Somerdale Cheese 2Somerdale International Ltd, Wellington, Somerset

Somerdale International Ltd is one of the leading exporters of cheese and dairy products in the UK, supplying high quality Cheddars as well as traditional hand crafted artisan cheeses.

The company was founded in 1990 and trades extensively across the US, bringing the best of British cheese to outlets across America.

Somerdale’s IT Manager John Beardon selected the 80MB option as best suiting business requirements.

John said: “We export to over 50 countries worldwide and have permanent staff based in the US and Australia as well as China, which means we do business across the globe 24/7.

“All our staff whether working abroad or remotely in the UK need to be able to access core business data at any time. The improvement in reliability and speed that FTTP has given us has meant we now have a system we can rely on to work quickly and effectively.

“In my role I also monitor and provide network support remotely often from home. With FTTP and the fact that Connecting Devon & Somerset has recently brought fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) to my village, Hillfarrance, I’m able to provide far more effective support.

“At present I’m installing the systems I’ve been wanting to deploy for ages – remote back up, making more use of the cloud and of course, improved remote access. It’s just the beginning though, I’ll be looking at new options and how we can make better use of FTTP across the company.”
