Creative Industries
Web Design & Marketing Company @ Exmouth, Devon
The lack of broadband speed in Exmouth has a big effect on the production and services we are able to provide. As a website design & marketing company it is vital that we are able to access & share information quickly & reliably.
The speed currently on offer, even within 200 yards of the exchange as we are, is only about 20Mbps. We plan to increase our team over the coming years but the bandwidth available would mean that this would not really be possible.
Voip (internet phone calls) is an area that we have explored but the quality of bandwidth available often means poor quality or dropped calls, affecting the customer experience.
All the business surveys, models and plans by local government or external consultants look to the creative industries to provide high quality employment in the south west, yet the basic infrastructure to enable this is not in place.
Back in 2003 our company was forced to move from Budleigh Salterton to Exmouth due to the lack of broadband. There is a strong possibility that unless speeds are increased in the very near future we will have to relocate again in order to remain competitive.
This would have a significant effect on our carbon footprint as commuting increased, not to mention the loss to the local economy of the jobs we currently provide & the opportunities planned for future years.
It is no exaggeration to say that the poor broadband speed available is the number one long term threat to the viability of this company remaining in the South West.”
