Information Technology

Resident @ Ilfracombe, Devon

My wife is an IT consultant. She operates from home, here in Ilfracombe, 3 weeks and from the London office for 1 week a month. The daily volume of data being moved between here, London, St Louis (USA) and Bangalore (India) reaches on occasion 0.5 Tb and can be very slow to transfer.

On occasions when I have collected her from the station coming home we have been joined by several other people who work in similar IT scenarios and move substantial data volumes.

The income these families bring to the locality is several orders of magnitude greater to those available in this town. Anecdotal evidence points to between 100 and 200 families are at benefit from such services, but if the speed could be reliably increased then probable numbers would swell to 400-500 families.
