Hotel Business Owner @ Parracombe, Devon
Our position is that we have broadband over our telephone line which is limited in speed to 0.5-1.0 Mbps due to our distance from our telephone exchange.
There is no doubt that broadband is of benefit to our business in that work on the internet can be performed quicker, and as a hotel, we can offer internet access to our guests which is a small but significant selling point.
It is possible that the case would become stronger in the future: the measure of low-bandwidth internet use is relative rather than absolute, and tends to grow over time, in step with the steady expansion of bandwidth available to people in general. This is what we found in our latter days of using dial-up which became inadequate for anything except the most minimal internet usage, despite our functional usage requirements not changing.
